Frequently Asked Questions

This is common at this stage. Use visual cues, like showing the letter with a picture (b for ball) and practice slowly and repeatedly.

Short, daily sessions of 10-15 minutes work best for young learners to keep attention and build skill gradually.

Teacher’s Guide

Common Misconceptions:

  • Confusing letters that look similar such as ‘b’ and ‘d’ or ‘p’ and ‘q’.
  • Thinking uppercase and lowercase letters are different letters entirely.

Scaffolding Ideas:

For Struggling Students:

  • Use tactile activities like tracing letters in sand or with finger paint.
  • Focus on a few letters at a time before moving on.
  • Use more repetition and one-on-one guidance.
For Advanced Students:

  • Introduce letter sounds along with names to prepare for phonics.
  • Practice writing letters independently.
  • Challenge with simple word formation using known letters.

Pacing Recommendations:

  • Begin with 5-7 letters per session to avoid overwhelming the student.
  • Review previous letters before introducing new ones.
  • Adjust speed based on the child’s interest and comfort level.
