Teacher’s Guide

Common Misconceptions:

  • Children may think speaking fast means speaking well; remind them to speak clearly and slowly.
  • Some children may interrupt before others finish; teach turn-taking and patience.
  • Kids might give one-word answers; encourage full sentences.

Scaffolding Ideas:

For Struggling Students:

  • Provide sentence starters to help them speak in full sentences.
  • Allow extra time for thinking and speaking.
  • Use pictures or objects to support understanding.
For Advanced Students:

  • Encourage adding more detail or describing feelings about their object.
  • Practice asking questions to classmates for more information.
  • Introduce new vocabulary words related to their objects.

Pacing Recommendations:

  • Begin with short activities of 5-10 minutes to match attention span.
  • Repeat activities over several days to build confidence.
  • Monitor your child’s engagement and adjust timing as needed.

Standards
