Teacher’s Guide

Common Misconceptions:

  • Students may confuse the main topic with a detail or a small part of the text.
  • Children might focus on too many details and miss what is most important.

  • Provide sentence starters such as ‘The text is mostly about…’.
For Advanced Students:

  • Challenge them to find more than two key details.
  • Ask them to compare two informational texts on similar topics.

Pacing Recommendations:

  • Allow extra time if your child is new to reading informational texts.
