Detailed Activities

Reading and Identifying the Main Topic

  1. Read the chosen short informational passage aloud with your child or have them read it aloud.
  2. Ask your child what the passage is mostly about to help them identify the main topic.
  3. Write down the main topic together on paper.
Finding Key Details

  1. Reread the passage and use a highlighter or colored pencil to mark important facts or details.
  2. Discuss each highlighted detail and how it relates to the main topic.
  3. Write the key details under the main topic on your paper.
Summarizing the Passage
