Overview

This two-lesson sequence develops connected eighth-grade opinion and argument writing skills. Lesson 1 focuses on composing a formal argument that includes a clear claim, a counterclaim, and a rebuttal. Lesson 2 builds on that argument by teaching students to select, integrate, and accurately cite evidence from the source passage provided on the worksheet. Each lesson is 45 minutes and uses common household materials.
