Overview

This two-lesson sequence develops foundational decoding skills for sixth-grade readers. Lesson 1 teaches students to use meaningful word parts and sentence context to determine unfamiliar vocabulary. Lesson 2 builds on that work by teaching students to monitor fluency, notice when meaning breaks down, and self-correct using decoding and context strategies. The worksheet supplies the reading passage; lessons refer to it without reproducing it.
