Overview
This two-lesson sequence builds connected fifth-grade reading-comprehension skills using the informational-text worksheet supplied separately. Lesson 1 teaches students to summarize several paragraphs by identifying main ideas and essential supporting details. Lesson 2 builds on that work by teaching students to explain how maps and timelines contribute to the meaning of the same informational text. Each lesson uses only common household materials and is designed for a 45-minute homeschool session.
